The Prom Edit

Post date: Wednesday 9 April 2014

I love prom. In fact, I love the run up to prom more than prom itself. There's nothing quite like the rush of trying on hundreds of dresses before the feeling of infatuation when you find the perfect one; choosing the perfect heels and accessories, deciding how to wear your hair and make-up and spending way too much money are all part of becoming a woman and ensuring the perfect prom experience.
Of course, I don't have a prom to go to this year but I couldn't resist putting together a few looks that I would have considered rocking if I did have one to attend.

To me, a classic prom dress is either a floaty maxi or a short poofy number. Zara has some beautiful maxis at the moment; this blue one can be dressed up for prom and then worn with flats on a Summer's evening, because let's be honest if you can get more than one wear out of your prom dress then everyone's winning. This tfnc London dress is pretty swanky and fit for a masked ball; paired with black and gold accessories it would be a perfectly elegant number for prom.

If you don't like to follow the crowd and wanted to sport something a little unconventional but equally ladylike this year, try a matching skirt and top or a wide-legged jumpsuit. Topshop always has great co-ords and this orange number is fabulously chic and will certainly make a statement. Jumpsuits are also a great alternative, this one falls just like an empire waisted gown but will ensure you don't have any Marilyn moments; teamed with classic black accessories it's sure to be a hit.

If you're one of those girls that just has to wear pink to prom, then these dresses are a modern twist on a classic "princess" dress. I have fallen in love with this pearl clutch, it's a perfectly glam accessory to any outfit.  Nude heels and dainty jewellery help keep the look sophisticated and classy; no one wants to look like a blancmange on prom night!

For those who want to stand out from the crowd of pretty dresses, risqué colours and sequins are the way forward. This sequinned Motel piece looks like it would be more at home at a celebrity bash than a prom, but you can bet no one else will have a dress like it. Accessories can be kept to a minimum as the dress speaks for itself. Wearing a canary yellow dress to your prom would be a sure fire way to catch peoples attention, especially when matched with an array of other bold colours. This Accessorize clutch is a great dupe for the floral Burberry clutch. and can be mirrored with some cute floral hair accessories.
