Easy Overnight Curls Tutorial

Post date: Sunday, 9 February 2014

I have spent a large portion of my teenage years searching for a quick and easy way to get curly hair overnight. Having naturally curly hair means I have to give myself at least an hour and a half in the morning to wash and style my hair so that it doesn't form a massive frizz-ball, and let's face it, ain't nobody got time for that. So what I really need is something I can do in the evenings, after I've washed my hair, to ensure that when I wake up I have smooth, bouncy curls.
I have tried everything; velcro rollers, foam rollers, rags, braids, buns, twists, creams, serums... but of course, nothing worked. However, last week I accidentally stumbled across the "rope braid" method and it worked like a dream. Of course, I had to share it with you guys because I'm sure I can't be the only girl out there who has struggled with the overnight curls dilemma... In fact, one of the best things about this method is that you don't even have to leave them overnight! You could just leave them in for a few hours in the afternoon whilst you eat, relax or even run errands, and then take them out and wear your curls out in the evening!

Start by washing your hair, and then combing it out with a wide-toothed comb.

Next I put some Argan Oil on the ends of my hair to stop them drying out, and finger-combed VO5's "Smoothly Does It" heat defence cream through my hair.

I blow dried my hair using a round brush as my hair takes 3 to 5 hours to dry naturally, and this method will work better if you start off with sleek, smooth hair.

Next you'll need to part your hair down your natural parting and clip one side out of the way. Take the side you are going to work on and split it in to two halves.

Twist both sections tightly towards your face...

... and then twist them together, away from your face.

Continue twisting all the way to the bottom, and then tie it off with a small elastic.

Repeat on the other side of your hair; you now have your rope braids. Either sleep on them so you can take them out in the morning to reveal beautiful curls, or do them in the afternoon and take them out after a couple of hours so you can wear your curls out in the evening.

When you take them out, you will have 4 very tight twists so you will have to spend a few minutes running your fingers through them and shaking your hair out so the curls can loosen up and separate. You should be left with big, beautiful, bouncy curls!

Let me know if you try this out!

    1. Yeah I loveee my flexirods! However because I have so much hair they take quite a while to put in so I tend to only use them for nights out where I have a whole day to get ready :)
