DIY: Mason Jar Storage

Post date: Wednesday 28 May 2014

I decided to get a little bit crafty for my Mum's birthday this year, but being the last minute gal that I am, I needed something quick and easy. I decided to label up a load of mason jars to use as kitchen storage; it only took me 15 minutes and they're super cute! I feel kind of silly writing this as a DIY post, as it really is so simple that even a five year old could probably have a go, so try and see this post more as inspirational than instructional...

You Will Need: Mason Jars (I got these from Ikea, but you can use old candle jars, jam jars, coffee jars etc) | Sellotape | Glass Paint/Pen (Acrylic paint works as well, but a special glass paint will be more long-lasting) | Print-outs of your label designs.

I made these labels on Photoshop, using a frame I found on Google, and the font Ostrich Sans Heavy. I also tried the font Wolf In The City, but decided I wanted something bolder. Make sure to measure out how big your mason jars are first, so you can decide how big to make the labels!

Cut out your labels...

...And sellotape them to the inside of the jars, making sure they're straight!

Next take your glass paint or pen...

 ...And trace over the label.

Once you've removed the label it's a little easier to see how it's come out on the glass, so you can go in and neaten it up.

I decided to finish these off by writing "Made With Love" on the lids, for an added touch.

There you are, minimalistic mason jars in just a few minutes! Of course, you don't just have to store these in the pantry, you can use them to keep your nail varnishes and make up brushes, fairy lights, jewellery, crafty bits... the list is endless!
Have you got any ideas for how to recycle old jars?

    1. I know, I've become so obsessed with them lately! They're so cheap in Ikea that it's hard to resist using them for everything!

  2. How fun is this though, I would love to have something like this in my house, and it is definitely something I could do. (I'm not much of a DIY person. I'm not that creative)

    Thanks for sharing!
