DIY: Floral Crown

Post date: Wednesday 12 June 2013

It personally offends me when people post DIY tutorials that don't involve things you can find lying around the house. So, I feel extremely hypocritical writing this because unless you live in Hobbycraft you probably wont have anything needed for this project to hand.
The weather has been bordering on glorious for the last week and so I felt inspired to get crafty and make some summer accessories. A floral crown has been on my wishlist for a while now but I couldn't justify spending £20 on one from the high street and so I thought it would be fun to make my own. I did end up spending about £15 altogether but it meant that I could tailor the crown to my own tastes, and I'm sure any bargain-hunters amongst you could find all of this for half the price! So, following the likes of Lana Del Rey and Alexa Chung I dived right on in.

You will need: A selection of artificial flowers | A hair band | Craft tape

Begin by experimenting with different ways of arranging your flowers, there's nothing worse than getting halfway through the headband and realising your design doesn't work!

Take your first flower and wrap the stalk tightly around the hair band a few times, cutting off any excess.

Use as much craft tape as necessary to secure it in place.

Continue to add flowers until your hair band is covered. I chose to attach the big ones first before filling in the gaps with the smaller ones, but you could also work from one side to the other or from the middle outwards.

Wear your crown and feel like a fairy princess!

  1. Ever since last summer (during coachella) I've been searching for a DIY for a floral headband (instead of a crown). And I really like how easy yours is. I'll try it this week and hopefully it'll be half as nice as yours!

  2. I've made a few flower crowns and bands before but the way I've been doing it is so hard; yours is so much easier! And the colors of the flowers you chose to put together here are lovely :)x
